Transport price

How much does
transport of military equipment?

The cost of transporting military equipment depends on six factors. As a rule, surplus military equipment is of non-standard dimensions, with complex customs documentation and auction deadlines for collection. Send model and route — price without hidden costs.

01

M35, M939, HEMTT — military trucks from auctions

A 2.5 or 5 ton military truck (M35, M939, HEMTT, Unimog) is a very different type of transport than an armored personnel carrier (APC) or an oversized military shelter. Each type requires a different trailer, a different loading approach, and different customs documentation.

02

Dimensions and oversized

As a rule, military trucks are wider and taller than standard civilian trucks — wide tires, tall cabs, folding parts. Military modules and shelters can be extremely wide (3–4.5 m) and require special trailer spacers and extraordinary transport permits in each transit country.

03

Customs documentation

We coordinate with a licensed customs agent for each route. A customs agent is legally required to classify and declare military equipment — we organize transportation and recommend an agent if you do not have one.

04

Auction deadline for collection

Military auction houses have strict deadlines for collection — usually 5–14 business days from the auction. Missing the deadline means penalties and loss of the goods. We recommend that you confirm your transport order immediately after purchase — we arrange for collection within the auction deadline.

05

Route and transit permits

Civil transport of surplus military equipment is subject to standard rules for extraordinary transport — no military permits are required, but standard oversized cargo permits are required in each transit country. For dual-use goods under EU Regulation 2021/821 or ITAR/EAR controlled equipment (US export controls) — a special export or import license may be required. This documentation is obtained by the buyer or seller — not the carrier. We coordinate the transport only after confirming that the documentation is complete.

06

Functional or malfunctioning equipment

Military vehicles from auctions are often in working order but without registration and cannot drive on public roads. We also transport completely non-functioning or dismantled vehicles — loading with a crane or special equipment at the pick-up location.

Why it is not the same as any other transport

WHAT MAKES THE TRANSPORT OF MILITARY EQUIPMENT DIFFERENT?

Five specifics every carrier needs to know about surplus military equipment — and most don't.

  • 1

Military equipment does not have a standard traffic permit

Surplus military trucks and vehicles do not have a civilian roadworthiness certificate and cannot be driven on public roads under their own towing — except with a special permit for trial transport or permanent registration. Trailering is the only legal method of transportation. Vehicles purchased at auction may NEVER be driven from the auction to you without registration.

  • 2

The customs classification of military equipment is complex

Surplus military equipment falls under special customs tariff codes — HS codes for military vehicles, armor, and military equipment differ from civilian equivalents. Customs authorities sometimes require additional documentation: a demilitarization certificate, an end-user certificate, or a statement of civilian use. We prepare the documentation in advance for each route.

  • 3

The dimensions of military vehicles are non-standard

Military trucks are wider, taller and heavier than their civilian equivalents. M939 truck eg. is 2.44 m wide and 2.74 m high — which on a step-frame trailer can give an overall height of 4.0–4.2 m. The HEMTT truck is 2.44 m wide and 2.79 m high. We measure each vehicle in advance before the trailer arrives.

  • 4

    Auction deadlines are strict.

Military auction houses (DovMil, Kiesling, DRMO) have non-extendable collection deadlines. Late collection means daily penalties and possible loss of purchased equipment. We recommend that you confirm your transport order the same day you purchase at the auction.

  • 5

    Oversized military modules require spacers

NATO military shelters and modules are sometimes wider than a standard trailer (2.55 m). For these cases we use steel spacers/spreader bars that expand the effective width of the trailer and keep the load stable. This type of transport requires special permits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you
need to know

How much does it cost to transport a military truck from Spain or the Netherlands?
Can a military truck drive itself from an auction?
No — surplus military trucks do not have a valid civilian license, technical inspection, or insurance. Any unregistered vehicle must be transported on a trailer — it cannot be driven on public roads. At the first police check, an unregistered vehicle will be stopped regardless of its technical condition. We organize loading directly at the auction location.
Do you transport vehicles from military auctions — DovMil, Kiesling, GovPlanet?
Yes — we regularly take over vehicles and equipment directly from military surplus auctions: DovMil (Denmark), Kiesling Auctions (Germany), Milestones International, GovPlanet Military, NATO EDA Excess Defence Articles and others. We coordinate directly with the auction house and take over within the agreed deadline.
What customs documentation is required for surplus military equipment?
Basic documentation: auction invoice or Bill of Sale, customs declaration with correct HS tariff code, proof of ownership. For demilitarized vehicles: demilitarization certificate (demil certificate) confirming that the vehicle does not contain active weapons or military electronics. For dual-use equipment according to EU Regulation 2021/821: possible export permit. We coordinate with a licensed customs agent for each route — we prepare the documentation together with the client before the truck departs.
Do you transport armored personnel carriers (APCs)?
Yes — we transport demilitarized armored vehicles without weapons and military electronics. M113 APC, BTR series, MRAP vehicles and the like. Each case requires a documentation check — demil certificate and customs classification are mandatory. Transport exclusively for civilian purchased and demilitarized equipment with complete documentation.
What are NATO military modules and how are they transported?
NATO military modules and shelters are standardized housing, command or technical units on a steel ISO-compatible carrier. They can be wider than a standard trailer (2.55 m) — for such cases we use steel spreader bars that stabilize the load on both sides of the trailer. This is visible in our photos — blue steel spreaders with red ratchet straps. Requires special permits.
How many military trucks can fit on one trailer?
A step-frame flatbed trailer (length 13.6 m, carrying capacity 24 tons) usually fits one 5-ton military vehicle (M939, LMTV) or two lighter vehicles (HMMWV Humvee class, Land Rover military). HEMTT (8×8, 10+ tons) requires an entire trailer due to its dimensions. We calculate group transport according to the dimensions and weight of specific vehicles.
How long does it take to transport from Spain or the Netherlands to the Balkans?
From Spain to Bosnia, Serbia or Croatia: 3–5 business days. From the Netherlands or Belgium: 2–4 days. From the Czech Republic or Slovakia: 1–2 days. For oversized cargo requiring permits: 5–10 days total. We recommend confirming the transport the same day you buy at auction — auction deadlines wait for no one.
Can a non-working vehicle be transported?
Yes — we load defective and non-functional vehicles with a crane or special equipment on site. We pick up and load military vehicles without a drive (motor not working, no fuel, deposited) as standard. Please let us know when you inquire whether the vehicle can drive — we prepare the appropriate equipment for loading.
Is military equipment insured during transport?
Yes — every transport is covered by a CMR waybill. For more expensive items (special configurations, collector vehicles) we organize additional cargo insurance according to the declared value. Surplus military equipment sometimes does not have a standard market value — we determine the declared value with the client based on the auction price.
Why choose Stronmet

Common mistakes
in transport
military equipment

Here is what happens when you choose the wrong carrier — and how Stronmet prevents each of these problems.

✕

Military truck drives itself from auction

The buyer thinks he can drive a military truck from the auction to his house because "it works and has tires." At the first police check, the vehicle is stopped — no registration, no technical inspection, no insurance. The truck has to be towed, the owner pays the fine and organizes transport at the last minute.

✓

Any vehicle without a valid registration is transported exclusively on a trailer. We organize loading directly at the auction location and delivery to your address.

✕

Wrong customs declaration

The carrier or buyer fills out the customs declaration themselves without knowing the correct HS code for military equipment. The customs authority stops the shipment, requests additional documentation. The transport is held at the border for days. Storage fees are charged per day.

✓

Stronmet checks the correct HS tariff tag for each type of equipment in advance. We coordinate each transport with a customs agent who determines the correct HS tariff code for the military equipment. For more complex cases, we prepare the documentation together with the client and agent before the truck leaves.

✕

Missed auction deadline

The customer waits a few days to organize the transport. In the meantime, the auction period expires. DovMil or Kiesling start charging daily storage penalties. After a week, the penalties exceed the value of the transport.

✓

Confirmation of transport order on the same day of purchase. We recommend confirming your transport order the same day you confirm your auction purchase. Every day you lose costs you money.

✕

Unexpected costs on the invoice

Agreed transport price — but the invoice arrives with “additional costs” you were not aware of. Fuel, tunnels, waiting time during loading, “administration”. The final bill is 30–50% higher.

✓

Price agreed in advance — that is the price on the invoice. No fine print, no additional costs. Everything included in the calculation is communicated to you before transport confirmation.

Stronmet eliminates each of these risks — with one single contact.
