How much does
crane transport?

The cost of transporting a crane depends on six factors. Cranes are one of the most complex categories of transport because they require disassembly into component parts and the coordination of multiple vehicles simultaneously. Send model and route — price with no hidden costs.

Crane type and load capacity

A mobile all-terrain crane up to 100 tons capacity (Liebherr LTM 1100, Grove GMK 4100) is a different project than a crawler crane 200–600 tons (Liebherr LR 1300, Manitowoc 16000, Demag CC 2800). The carrying capacity determines the dimensions and number of vehicles for transport.

Assembly status and vehicle number

Smaller mobile cranes are transported complete (1 vehicle) or with a dismantled chair (2 vehicles). Medium crawler cranes 80–200t require 3–6 vehicles for lower machine, upper machine, jib and counterteg. Large cranes 200–600t+ require 10–30+ vehicles. We plan each project individually.

Component weight and layout

The undercarriage of a crawler crane can be 40–150 tons by itself — requiring a modular platform or reinforced lowbed. The upper machine, counterweight and boom segments are planned according to the axle load.

Route and permissions

Crane convoy transport requires special permits for extraordinary transport in each transit country. For heavier components (40+ tons per vehicle), the route is planned according to the load capacity of the bridges. For convoys of multiple vehicles — we coordinate all permits together as one project.

Monitoring and coordination

Cranes are usually oversized loads — in most countries they require a pilot vehicle escort. For longer convoys and heavier components — escort in front and behind, and in some countries a police escort. Transport often takes place at night or on weekends due to traffic restrictions.

Loading location

The crawler crane must be dismantled on site and the components loaded piece by piece. We coordinate with the installers and crane engineering on the sequence of dismantling and loading. The location must be accessible for lowbed and modular vehicles.

Five technical requirements that every carrier must understand when transporting cranes.

    A crane is not a single vehicle — it is a project

    A crawler crane with a capacity of 100 tons does not fit on one lowbed. Lower machine, upper machine, boom in sections, counterweight and suspension equipment — each part is a separate vehicle. Coordinating 5–15 vehicles starting from the same location and arriving at the destination in the correct sequence for assembly — it's a logistics project, not just transportation.

    Delivery order is critical

    On site, the crane is assembled in a specific order — the lower machine must be in place and stable before the upper machine arrives. The arrow must arrive in the correct sequence of sections. We coordinate the order of delivery with the assembly team.

    The bearing capacity of the bridge is the limiting factor

    The undercarriage of a large crawler crane can be 80–150 tons by itself. The total mass of the vehicle with trailer can be 200+ tons. The route must be planned according to the actual carrying capacity of each bridge — not according to traffic signs.

    Vangabarity is almost always present

    Crawler cranes are wider than the standard 2.55 m. Arrows are 20–80+ m long and are transported horizontally — which automatically generates permit requests. For each transit country, we obtain special permits immediately upon confirmation of the order.

    Transport at night and coordination with the authorities

    Heavy cranes in a convoy are usually transported at night or on weekends due to traffic restrictions. We coordinate with the police and traffic authorities for passage through cities and on highways. The client doesn't need to worry about this — we do it.

How much does it cost to transport a crawler crane from Germany?

Veći gusjeničarski kranovi najčešće zahtijevaju transport u više jedinica, zbog čega se organizacija i oprema određuju prema konkretnom modelu i konfiguraciji krana. How many vehicles are needed to transport a crawler crane?
It depends on the model and load capacity. Orientation: Small crawler cranes 40–80t: 3–6 vehicles (lower machine, upper machine, boom in sections, counterweight). Medium cranes 80–200t: 6–15 vehicles. Large cranes 200–600t+: 15–40+ vehicles. We plan each project individually based on the crane's technical documentation.
Can the crane be transported completely — without dismantling?
Smaller mobile all-terrain cranes up to 60–80t capacity (Liebherr LTM 1060, Grove GMK 3060) can be transported complete as one vehicle with an extraordinary transport permit. Larger mobile cranes separate the counterweight and jib. Crawler cranes are always dismantled — the lower machine, upper machine and jib in sections go on separate vehicles.
How long does it take to transport a crane from Germany?
For a small mobile crane (1–2 vehicles, within dimensions): 2–3 working days. For smaller crawler crane (3–6 vehicles, permits required): 7–12 days total (5–7 days permits + 2–3 days transport). For a large crane (15+ vehicles): 14–30+ days — planning logistics and permits takes more time.
Do you organize the coordination of multiple vehicles in a convoy?
Yes — that's the essence of crane transportation. We coordinate all components as one project: agreed order of departure, GPS tracking of each vehicle and delivery according to the order of assembly on the construction site. One person is responsible for everything — the client does not have to coordinate multiple carriers.
Do cranes need special transport permits?
Yes — almost always. Crawler cranes are wider than 2.55 m and heavier than standard limits. We obtain special permits for extraordinary transport for each transit country. Deadline for permits: BiH 3–5 days, Croatia 3–5, Austria 5–7, Germany 5–7 working days. We recommend confirming your order as soon as possible.
Is the crane secured during transport?
Yes — each vehicle in the convoy is covered by a CMR waybill. For high-value cranes, we arrange additional cargo insurance according to the declared value.
Do you carry Liebherr, Demag, Manitowoc and Sennebogen cranes?
Yes — all makes: Liebherr LTM/LR/LT, Demag AC/CC, Manitowoc (Grove GMK/GRT/GTK), Tadano ATF/GR, Sennebogen, Link-Belt, Terex, Hitachi Sumitomo, Kobelco and all others.
