Free dimensions without permit
In Ukraine, a special permit is not required as long as the vehicle remains within the standard dimensions listed below. A theoretical tolerance of 2% also applies.

Up to 5% overrun (i.e. up to 23.1m × 2.73m × 4.2m – 42t, load indivisibility, axle loads not exceeded) — is sufficient only Ukravtodor permit, which can theoretically be obtained at the border upon request by customs officers. However, it is never 100% certain that such consent will be issued immediately. Permitted axle loads: 11t – single axle, 16t – group of 2 axles, 22t – group of 3 axles.
Above 5% overrun (above 23.1m × 2.73m × 4.2m – 42t) — the permit is obtained by the competent authority 3–5 days in advance. In any case, for dimensions above 22m × 2.6m × 4m – 40t, we recommend timely submission of the application to ensure smooth border crossing.
Types of permits for Ukraine
🇺🇦 Abnormal Transport Permit — Ukraine
In Ukraine, they are issued exclusively one-time permits. The permit is valid for max. 10 days, and the final deadline is determined by the competent authority. It refers to a specific route from point A to point B, for a specific combination of vehicles and specified dimensions. Changes to the permit after issuance are not possible.

- Vehicle registration certificates (tractor and semi-trailer / truck + trailer).
- Green cards of tractors and semi-trailers / trucks + trailers.
- Bilateral permit.

Transport time restrictions
Transportation in Ukraine is possible 24/7, unless the permit specifies otherwise (according to the decision of the competent authority). Regardless of the permit, transportation is not permitted under the following conditions:
- Fog.
- Snow.
- Ice.
- In summer at temperatures above 28°C.
Private escort
Civil escort in Ukraine is mandatory after exceeding any of the following parameters: 24m × 3.5m × 4.5m. The number of accompanying vehicles depends on the width of the transport:
- Width 3.5m to 3.75m — 1 escort vehicle.
- Width 3.75m to 3.99m — 1 police escort vehicle.
- Width ≥ 4.0m — 2 police escort vehicles.
Police escort
Police escort in Ukraine applies to the following dimensions:
- Width 3.75m to 3.99m — 1 police escort vehicle.
- Width ≥ 4.0m — 2 police escort vehicles.
Deadline for applying for police escort: 5–10 days after obtaining the permit. Cancellation costs depend on the progress of the request and the time until cancellation.
