As soon as you exceed one of the limits for length, width, height or weight, a corresponding permit is required before entering Denmark or before entering a route that requires one.
Types of permits for Denmark
🇩🇰 Abnormal Transport Permit — Denmark
Short-term permit
It is issued for a specific route, one-way or two-way (there and back). Valid for 3 months.
Permanent permit
Maximum dimensions: 30m × 3.65m × 4.1m – 48t. It is valid for 1 year and is issued upon presentation of documents confirming the justification of the request (e.g. a contract with the client).
Changes to the permit after issuance are not possible. After the license expires, a new application is submitted.
Required documents
- Scans of the vehicle registration documents.
- Gutachten or Paragraph 70 when exceeding 40t.
- Authorization from the renter (if the vehicle is rented).
- Over 50t (6 axles) and 56t (7 axles) — Danish qualification certificate also required.
The permit is issued for one transport combination and is not transferable to another vehicle combination.

Transport time restrictions
In Denmark, transport is permitted from dawn to dusk. Transports with shipments over 5m wide are carried out exclusively at night.
Private escort
Civilian escort in Denmark depends on the dimensions of the transport and the type of road.
- On highways: escort mandatory for width >4.00m and length >30m.
- Off the highway: escort mandatory for width >3.65m and length >30m.
In Denmark, there is a specific "mirror rule" — if the load obstructs the driver's view in the side mirrors, an escort is mandatory (from 2.85m wide). For example, driving off-highway with a width of 4m requires 1 escort in front and, due to the mirror rule, an additional escort in the back.
Types of escort vehicles
In self-accompaniment, the companion's vehicle must be yellow and, according to Danish law, have red and white markings on the front and back. The driver of the accompanying vehicle must hold a category C+E driving license and must be able to understand the Danish license and comply with its conditions.
Police escort
Police escort is not applicable for Denmark.
