Can the force be translated vertically?
Yes, but only with a special organization. Vertical silos that cannot be laid due to internal elements, connections or stiffness are transported upright on a low-floor trailer with special side supports. This type of transport requires checking all overpasses on the route, escort and coordination with the authorities. We plan each such project individually.
Does the tank have to be empty for transport?
Yes — tanks and silos are transported only empty. The transport of containers with liquids, gases or bulk materials without special permits is not permitted. The transport of dangerous goods in containers is regulated by the ADR agreement (Accord européen relatif au transport international des marchandises dangereuses par route) and requires a special license and certified equipment.
When does a container become an oversized load?
A container becomes an oversized cargo when the total height of the cargo on the trailer exceeds 4.0 m. Cargo height = trailer platform height (lowbed: 0.9–1.2 m, standard: 1.4–1.6 m) + container height (diameter for horizontal position). E.g. 3.0 m diameter tank on a lowbed (1.0 m): total height = 4.0 m — at the border, verification required. Container widths over 2.55 m also require permits.
What are saddles and why are they needed?
Saddle supports or cradles are custom-shaped supports that are placed under the cylindrical container on the transport platform. They transfer the load evenly along the axis of the container and prevent rolling during transport. Without a saddle, the vessel rests on two points of contact causing local stresses in the wall and potential damage to the welds. The standard saddle angle is 120° for optimal load transfer.
How long does it take to transport a tank from Germany?
Tanks within standard dimensions: 2-3 working days to Bosnia, Croatia or Serbia. Oversized vessels with special permits: 5–10 days total (2–7 days for permits + 2–3 days for transportation). For vertical transport of upright silo: 7–14 days depending on the complexity of the route.
Is the container secured during transport?
Yes — every transport is covered by a CMR bill of lading. For high-value process vessels, reactors and tanks, we arrange additional cargo insurance according to the declared value of the equipment.
Should I clean the tank before transport?
For tanks that have been in contact with hazardous substances (fuels, chemicals, gases) — yes. The vessel must be properly cleaned and must have a degassing certificate or steam cleaned certificate showing that it does not contain residues of hazardous substances above the permitted limits. Without this document, the transport may be treated as the transport of hazardous substances under ADR regulations.
What documentation is required for the transport of a tank or silo?
Standard documentation: consignment note or CMR waybill, invoice or declaration of value, technical sheet with dimensions and weight. For containers that have been in contact with hazardous substances: certificate of cleanliness. For oversized containers: special permits for each transit country. For customs crossing: customs declaration and invoice. We organize all permits for transit countries.
