How long can the element fit on a standard trailer?
The standard semi-trailer accepts loads up to 13.6 m within the permitted overall vehicle length of 16.5 m (EU Directive 96/53/EC). For elements 13.6–20 m we use an extendable trailer. For elements 20–35 m a special configuration with a front or rear dolly. For elements 35 m+ a modular platform or a special trailer for extra long loads.
Do you transport wind turbine blades?
Yes — turbine blades are one of the most typical examples of long cargo. Blades 40–90+ m long require a special trailer with active rear axle steering (blade adapter or rotor star). The route is planned according to minimum curvature radii that vary according to the blade length. We organize for OEM manufacturers and EPC contractors.
When does a long load require an escort?
The thresholds for escort vary by country. As a general rule in the EU, escorting a pilot vehicle becomes mandatory when the total length of the vehicle exceeds 25–30 m (depending on the country) or when the load is extremely wide (3+ m). In some countries, escorting is only mandatory at night or during certain time windows. All escorts are organized by us, included in the quote.
How long do Long Cargo Permits last?
Deadlines for special permits for extraordinary transport vary by transit country. Approximate deadlines: Bosnia and Herzegovina 3–5 business days, Croatia 3–5 business days, Austria 5–7 business days, Germany 5–7 business days, Switzerland 5–10 business days. We recommend confirming your order at least 7–10 days in advance for routes through multiple countries.
Are long loads transported only at night?
Not always, but in some countries yes. E.g. in Germany, the transport of oversized loads (including very long ones) is only allowed from midnight to 6am or is limited to certain hours and prohibited on weekends and holidays. In Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, restrictions are generally more flexible. We inform you of all the time windows for your specific route.
How long does long freight transport from Germany take?
Elements within the dimensions (up to 16.5 m total): 2–3 working days. Elements requiring permits (20–35 m): 7–12 days total (5–7 days permits + 2–3 days transport). Turbine blades 40 m+: 10–20 days depending on the complexity of the route and the number of transit countries.
Is long cargo insured during transport?
Yes — every transport is covered by a CMR bill of lading. For high-value elements (turbine blades, bridge girders, special modules) we organize additional cargo insurance according to the declared value.
What documentation is required?
CMR consignment note, invoice or declaration of value. For oversized cargo: special permits for extraordinary transport for each transit country. For customs crossing: customs declaration and invoice. We organize all permits for transit countries as part of the service.
