How much does
drilling rig transport?

The cost of transporting a drilling rig depends on six factors. Drilling rigs are multi-component machines — the crawler base, high guide and support equipment require careful planning and usually multiple vehicles. Send model and route — price with no hidden costs.

Model, class and weight of the set

Smaller drilling rigs (Bauer BG 15/20, Liebherr LB 16/20, Soilmec SR-30/50): weight 30–60 tons, guide height 15–25 m. Medium class (Bauer BG 28/36, Liebherr LB 28/36): weight 60–100 tons, guide height 25–35 m. Heavy rigs (Bauer BG 40/50+, Liebherr LB 44/46): weight 100–150+ tons, guide height 30–45+ m. Each class carries a different number of vehicles and costs.

Guide (grease) and its dimensions

The drill string is the most complex element to transport. 15–45 m high, it must be dismantled and transported horizontally — on a special extension beam or a separate vehicle. The string can be 20–45 m long and weigh 2–4 tons. Its transport requires an extendable trailer or a special trailer for long loads.

Number of vehicles for complete transport

A complete drilling rig typically requires 2–5 vehicles: (1) crawler base on a lowbed, (2) guide on an extendable trailer or long load trailer, (3) rotary head and kelly rods separately, (4) tools, extension rods and supporting equipment. We plan each project individually.

Route and oversized permits

As a rule, the crawler base of the drilling rig is wider than 2.55 m and higher than 4.0 m on the lowbed. This automatically requires special permits for extraordinary transport in each transit country. We obtain all permits immediately upon order confirmation.

Delivery time

We organize standard transport within 48–72 hours. Drilling rigs are critical equipment on the construction site — delay means direct losses. For emergencies — pick-up within 24 hours with priority organization.

Supporting equipment and tools

Drilling rigs come with a complete set of equipment: kelly rods, casing pipes, drilling heads (auger, bucket, core barrel), bentonite pumps and mixers. All equipment is organized on a separate vehicle or in combination with other rig equipment.

    The leader is never transported upright

    The leader of the drilling rig is 15–45 m high. In the working position, it stands upright. For transport, it is completely dismantled from the crawler base and placed horizontally on a special extension beam or a separate vehicle. No standard trailer will accommodate a vertical leader — a carrier who says otherwise either does not understand or is lying.

    Kelly bars are long and heavy

    Kelly rods (telescopic rods for transmitting torque to the drill head) are typically 12–20 m long and 3–8 tons in weight. They require an extendable trailer or a special trailer for long loads. They cannot be transported on a standard semi-trailer.

    The crawler base is oversized

    As a rule, the crawler undercarriage of the drilling rig is 3–4 m wide and 3–4 m high on the lowbed. This automatically requires special permits for extraordinary transport in each transit country. We obtain all permits immediately.

    The hydraulic system must be properly prepared

    The rotary head and hydraulic cylinders must be empty or properly blocked for transport. Improper securing of hydraulic hoses can cause leaks and contamination. We coordinate the preparation with the operator or service technician.

    The order of delivery follows the order of assembly

    On the construction site, the set is assembled in a specific order — the track base must be in place and stable before the guide arrives. We coordinate the order of delivery with the assembly team.

How much does it cost to transport a drilling rig from Germany?

How many vehicles are needed to transport the entire drilling rig?

Can the leader (fat) be translated upright?

What is a kelly bar and how is it transported?
Kelly bar is a telescopic bar that transmits the torque from the rotary head to the drilling tool. Length: 12–20 m. Weight: 3–8 tons. Requires an extendable trailer or special long-haul trailer for transport — cannot be transported on a standard 13.6 m semi-trailer.
How long does it take to transport a drilling rig from Germany?
Transport of a smaller set (2–3 vehicles) from Germany to Bosnia or Serbia: 7–10 days total (permits 5–7 days + transport 2–3 days). For larger sets (4–6 vehicles): 10–14 days. We recommend confirming your order as early as possible.
Do you carry Bauer, Liebherr LB, Soilmec and Casagrande sets?
Yes — all brands of drill rigs: Bauer (BG and DC series), Liebherr LB series, Soilmec SR/SF series, Casagrande B/C series, IMT AF series, Klemm, Buma, Watson, Comacchio and all others. We evaluate each rig according to class, guide height and number of vehicles required for transport.
Do you also organize the transport of accompanying tools (casing, auger, bucket)?
Yes — we organize the complete transport of the rig with a full set of equipment: casing pipe, spiral auger, bucket drill heads, core barrel, bentonite pumps, bentonite silo and accompanying equipment. All equipment is planned on separate vehicles or in combination according to dimensions.
What is the difference between a drill rig and a crane?
A rotary drilling rig (or piling rig) is a specialized machine for making bored piles, diaphragms, and foundation elements in the ground. It works by rotating or vibrating into the ground. A crane is a hoist that lifts and moves loads in the air. Both machines have a crawler base and a tall vertical structure — but they are completely different in purpose and method of transportation.
